Streaking Means Mindful Success
Being mindful and present is a secret ingredient to success and Streaking is how you get there.
While teaching a business class about streaking a couple of weeks ago, one of the students made a comment that intrigued me. He said, “streaking is about mindful success.” Not sure I understood what he was saying, I asked for a little more detail.
He said that he had heard me speak about Streaking before and thought it was a nice idea or a simple way to be consistent in areas where he lacked consistency. Which, candidly, when we started Streaking six years ago, we thought the same thing; however, as we traveled further in our Streaking journey, we realized that streaking was much more than a simple system to create consistency. It was, in fact, a way to change your brain and grow new brain cells which, this student said, was “mindful success.”
There are several recommended activities to grow brain cells which include but not limited to activities such as running, cycling, and swimming. Also, cognitive exercises such as reading, writing, and problem-solving. Other activities that stimulate brain cell growth are developing new skills, meeting new people, and trying new things. There are many studies and several articles that talk about what you need to do to grow your brain but how you do it is often overlooked, understated, or plain not discussed which is where Streaking enters.
Streaking is the “how” to growing brain cells. Set yourself up for mindful success by changing your paradigm from focusing on what you are doing to how long you can do a laughably simple activity. For example, a streak in the category of cognitive exercise might be to practice at least one math fact daily, or, review at least one brain puzzle daily, or, read at least one professional article weekly.
Or you could start a streak to connect with at least one person through LinkedIn daily, or send an inspirational thought to at least one person weekly, or practice at least one word in a foreign language daily all of which will grow your brain.
What you will find through time is that the laughably simple streak you keep daily, weekly, or monthly is the floor on which you stand to reach, stretch, and strengthen mindful success.
Remember as you build the cognitive prowess you need to follow the laws of streaking which are as follows:
Law #1: Make it Laughably Simple
Law #2: No Record, No Streak
Law #3: Create (or Join) a Community
When you follow these laws, you set yourself up for consecutive consistent success.
To the student who astutely recognized that Streaking is a powerful engine of cognitive growth, thank you for sharing your powerful insight with me and may your streaks bring you "mindful success."
